November 14, 2008

Hello to all WLMS PTO Members!

Thanks so much for your support and dedication to the students at WLMS. Our PTO year has been great thus far, and Im sure it will continue to be a productive and successful year. Our next PTO meeting is Tuesday, November 18 at 7:00 PM. We will have a wonderful program and the WLMS Chorus will perform a few selections. We will also update everyone on the progress and status of the Sweet Heart Dance and the Spring Fling. Mr. Taylor will do a presentation/ demonstration with an LCD projector. This is a great need that PTO is planning to try and fill by purchasing as many as possible. We will be using the funds raised from the dance and the Spring Fling to do this. Hope to see you there!

Please pay close attention to the following announcements and updates:

*WLMS graduation coach Mrs. Cassie Ricks has volunteered to organize a data-base for parent e-mails and to send out school-wide reminders of upcoming events. If you are interested, please send your email address to cassiericks@lcboe.net.

*Yearbook order forms have been sent to students homes. They should have received them by now; if an order form has not been sent to your student by Nov. 21, please see Mrs. Nichols to pick up a form. Parents should fill out the order forms and return them directly to Jostens. Also, parents may purchase a full color student recognition ad in the yearbook. Prices are as follows: page- $50; page- $75; full page- $100. Students may pick up ad order forms from Mrs. Nichols.

*WLMS is doing another school-wide fundraiser. Children are taking orders for gifts, candy, etc. from Celebrate the Seasons. Items will be back by the second week of December. Encourage your students to participate and make this fundraiser a success! See Mrs. M. Robinson with any questions or call her at 272 8452, x. 8394.

*As you all know, WLMS completed Red Ribbon Week with a Health Awareness Day on Friday, October 31. Exhibitors from Fairview Park Hospital, South Central Health District, Teen Court, Department of Natural Resources, and West Laurens Middle School participated in the days activities. Students were able to gain knowledge from the exhibitors and participated in several fun physical activities throughout the day. The day was deemed a great success. West Laurens Middle School wishes to thank al of those that contributed.

*Congratulations to the following homerooms who had the highest percentage participation for each grade in the PTO Membership Drive:

8th grade: Mrs. Donna Robinson with 19% participation

7th grade: Ms. Renee Shadix with 100% participation

6th grade: Mrs. Jennifer Childers with 29% participation

These homerooms will be treated to a ice cream party compliments of Mr. Matt Hatchett and Brusters. Once again, congratulations!!

*Hats off to Mrs. Hatchers 7th grade Social Studies students for their performances of government term raps. The raps and songs were performed to music that ranged from Mary Had a Little Lamb to Party Like a Rock Star. The best rap was performed by a group from Coach Matthews homeroom: Sunshine Thomas, Tymethia Moye, Deidra Stanley, and Armoni Channel. As one group rapped, (they were) in Mrs. Hatchers class, (they werent) in science learning about volume and mass!

**Congratulations to Coach Taylor and the WLMS Football Team for winning the Region Championship and going undefeated this year! GO RAIDERS!!
